Operates two 24-hour-a-day hotlines for victims of crime or domestic violence and
their families. The Crime Victims Hotline (212-577-7777) and the Domestic Violence
Hotline (1-800-621 -HOPE) offer immediate crisis counseling, information and referral
to shelter, long or short-term counseling, legal assistance, document replacement,
lock replacement and compensation assistance to victims of crimes. The hotlines also
provide practical assistance, such as emergency financial assistance for transportation,
or food vouchers for clients in need. Services are available in English and Spanish
(Victim Services also has access to translators for many other languages) and are
free of charge. Both hotlines have a TDD capability (1-800-810-7444) for hearing-impaired
callers. Victim Services also operates hotlines for victims of elder abuse (212-227-1227)
and incest (212-227-3000)
